Fallen Flyers Memorial

Wally Shilts/2003 Ohio/Michigan Fly-In DVD

Fund Donation Information

Thanks to the very generous pilots who will helped with this effort. Through your consideration we were able to offer over $1000. It is a small thing we can do for Gail, a friend of the community, a friend to many of us and the soul mate to our friend and fallen flier, Wally Shilts.

Wally Shilts will be remembered by all who knew him as a fine man, fun loving, generous of spirit, a good friend and flying buddy who was consumed by his love of flying. Whether we knew him well or not, anyone who saw him strapped to his PPG engine under his bright yellow wing, possessing the sky, could easily recognize his passion for flight and powered paragliding. His death on August 10, 2003 devastated all who knew him and left a big hole in the fabric of the PPG world.

To honor and remember Wally, a committee has been formed to collect memorial donations and transfer the proceeds to Wally's first love, Gail Mckenzie. The committee is comprised of Bruce Brown (Ohio Powered Paragliding), Jeff Goin (President, USPPA), Rick Grimm and Cindy Adkison. Donations can be made either through through Bruce Brown or the USPPA. Those who make a minimum donation of $20.00 through Bruce Brown will receive a copy of a newly produced DVD, described below, containing footage from three fly-ins.
Bruce Brown is absorbing all production and shipping costs associated with the DVD and there are no administrative charges for donations through USPPA. All funds collected will be given directly to Gail with no deductions for any reason.

The DVD is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long. The August 2003 Perrysburg, Ohio fly-in segment is 50 minutes and contains lots of aerials, launches, and interviews. The segment of the June 2003 PoweredParaglider.com Grosse Ile fly-in is 15 minutes and contains general clips of the weekend and the competition, and the last segment is 10 minutes of the September 2003 Peebles, Ohio fly-in hosted by Dave Purdin Auto Sales and is mostly aerial footage. Rick Grimm shot most of the footage for the DVD and John Phillips also contributed. Rick Grimm and Bruce Brown produced the DVD. It will make a great addition to PPGer's collections and watching it will help get those in inhospitable climes through the non-flyable winter weather
ahead.

To donate and receive the DVD, send a check for a minimum donation of $20.00 to:
