Powered Paraglider Search & Rescue (SAR)

July 26, 2006

The Route 66 Flyers in Albuquerque, NM have imbedded themselves into the local search and rescue community, becoming a useful addition to its capabilities. This is due significantly to the efforts of Ed Poccia with help from others, who have taken the time to cultivate relationships and responsibly offer their services.

Ed has created a presentation that serves as a starting point for others wanting to start a program in their area. Of course not all geographies are conducive to using powered paragliders. After all, woodlands would be prohibitively risky to use a PPG since, one of the first rules of SAR, is to avoid needing rescue yourself.

First, work out whether or not your local rescue services would be willing to work with you. Then see how they want to use you, possibly offering a copy of this program so they see the serious capability of the powered paraglider.
