Incident Details
January 1, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
A moments inattention today cost me a trip to the hospital. After turning around from a reverse launch I reached for the left toggle. It wasn’t where I expected it to be and I reached a little further back … neatly missing the netting placed there to prevent precisely this from happening.
To make a long story short I lost 1/2 inch of my left middle finger (at least that part of me got some air time) and took off the tip of my left index finger. The emergency room Dr stitched everything up nicely, but I have to visit the ortho surgeon to see if anything else needs to be done.
I think I’ll cover the existing netting with something akin to the SkyCruiser netting for when I fly again (once I’m healed up).
So .. watch out … rotating machinery packs a wallop and it only takes a moment to make a ghastly mistake.
