Incident Details

January 1, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

I checked the engine, parts, and wing and of course there was the flat-wide-open lake for taking off! I found out that it was NOT so flat! I setup for a reverse and the wing came up smooth and nice. It looked good so I turned and started running. Running? More like wobble-tripping. The “runway” was very uneven and before I knew it a HARD 1.5-foot snow ridge whacked me in the shins! I fell forward all the while trying shut off the engine. Unfortunately not in time! The prop pulled a paraglider line into it, which split one blade of the prop. But not before bending the upper 1/4 panel of the cage! It happened very quickly and of course to the view of a few snowmobile riders, folks skiing with small paragliders and other! I think I left with some bits of prop still in the snow?

Needless to say, it was my fault. I failed to check out my “runway” fully before hooking in and running.
