Incident Details
April 3, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
In a hurry to get up before dark, not wanting to have to reset if the wind was not enough for a reverse, I attempted a forward. The wing quickly came up, I was a little slow on the throttle and the wing surged forward and slightly to the left. I tip toed as best I could, and with a little right brake regained centered position under the wing. Only I was now 30 to 40 degrees off the wind and headed toward a tree that I could not climb out over. I chose to abort. I was unable to maintain my footing on the damp grass, and with the wing pulling to the right I went to a knee. The momentum caused the cage to contact the ground, the prop jolted into the fuel tank and cage. Prop destroyed, fuel tank had two 1 1/2 inch holes, ding in cage.
