Incident Details
August 16, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
After flying 1 hour, 30 minutes, my motor suddenly started bogging. I tried pumping the throttle and it would bog worse as I got to full throttle. Then the motor died. I was a couple hundred feet in the air and a few hundred yards off shore over a shallow lake. I turned downwind to head back to shore and did a downwind landing right at the shore line in some weeds. No damage or injury. Probably a plugged fuel filter. Lesson learned: Always fly like your motor is going to fail. With close to 100 hours on this motor with no previous problems, I came to trust it too much. I wasn’t high enough or close enough to shore to turn back into the wind and almost had a water landing.
