Incident Details
April 14, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
During kiting prcatice, I was struck with a sudden gust of wind (40mph) which pulled me about 20-30 feet into the air. I pulled the D risers to drop back to the ground with a mild impact. As the chute came down it twisted so the trailing edge of the chute was up. The high wind speed caught the chute and began to drag me across a field. The ride finally stopped (100 yards later)when the chute blew into a baseball backstop. I suffered severe abrasions along the entire right side of my body.
My failue to recognize an approaching weather front was the primary cause of the accident. I now realize that the weather can go from mild to wild faster than a person can react.
