Incident Details

September 1, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

As a relatively new pilot, I waited for a bit of wind that never came. As I started my run in the calm air, the wing came up, but then jerked back, as if I should have done a reverse inflation, even though there was still no noticeable wind. I hit the kill switch instantly. I was then pulled to the right. Wanting to stay up long enough for the prop to stop, I stepped way to my right to regain balance. When I then fell to the right, the frame of my machine hit the outside of my right ankle. The result was a serious concussion injury to the ligaments. Surgery would be required to repair the damage, but I have decided to use a brace for activities other than normal walking. I was wearing low cut running shoes at the time. Had I been wearing high top boots, I probably would not have been injured at all. All that would have been needed was a bit of padding or protection in the area. Wear appropriate footwear and other safety gear. You never know what kind of freakish thing could happen.
