Incident Details

November 8, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

Launching and landing in a mowed pasture, semi-wet from a hard rain two days prior to mishap. Landed with engine off. After landing, kept the wing overhead by walking forward briskly and up a medium incline (errosion mound)in order to drop wing on dry ground.

While walking up the incline the wing began to fall back. I tried to speed up by trotting to get the wing back up. Looked up at my wing and my right foot landed in a 6″ hole, I lost my balance and fell to the left (down-hill), twisted my knee around so bad that my right foot stayed put (up-hill). I fell to the ground and felt a huge “pop”. I looked at my right foot and it was facing backwards. Funny how it didn’t hurt until I saw the abnormality (that’s when my suppressed tourette syndrome started).

I allowed myself to fall back into a turtle in order to get my foot out of the hole, then I picked up my ~dangling~ right lower leg and snapped it back into place. My tourette’s attack stopped, but the pain didn’t.

The ER doc referred me to the orthopedic doc. No broken bones, but likely a torn ACL and MCL. MRI later this week will reveal the full extent.
