Incident Details

December 1, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

We were launching from an asphalt runway with light shifting winds and trees on both sides. After resetting a couple of times, I did a reverse, looked up to see a full canopy and then applied power just as the left side collapsed. When it reinflated, it jerked me pretty hard and I came down wrong on my left foot. I took a few more steps under a wildly occelating wing and then fell down breaking the prop and cage. Because we were planning only beach flying, I did not have my boots and was wearing old tennis shoes. There must have been a little rotor generated by the trees. I should have powered up more slowly and taxied longer before applying so much power. 52 yrs. Over 250 hours experience. Black Devil powered motor. Fractured Fibula at the ankle.
