Incident Details

December 29, 2006 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

I have a new blackhawk 172cc motor and am working on breaking it in before I fly it. I have been trying to put the motor on and stand upright with it to practice moving about the field with it on me before I make my first flight with it. Two times I have had gasoline spurt out from somewhere within the motor onto me. The engine was not running when the gasoline leaked. Because the gasoline has both times landed on my head/ears I suspect the fuel is coming from the air tube leading to the carburetor. This only happens when I am attempting to stand upright with the motor on my back and with the engine cut off. I have not attempted to stand up with the motor running while it is on my back.
