Incident Details

July 29, 2007 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

Had been cruising around after a perfect launch and was flying mostly about 2000 ft above ground level for almost 2 hrs. Started running low on fuel and was beginning to climb out to the highest altitude possible that the fuel would allow so I could come in without power as I always do. I had been flying lower prior to this climb out and am very fortunate that the engine stalled out when I was at the higher altitude. The cause of the engine shut down after inspection of motor on the ground was trash collected on the inner screen of the wallbro carb. This trash from the fuel supply was so small that it made it past the inline fuel filter. The loss of power to the unit gave me the idea that the engine was locking up so I shut it down. Thank God above for the altitude that was under my feet that allowed me to glide in and land without incident. Lesson learned here: Check your fuel system at least every 2 years to keep small pieces of trash out of the small hidden filters inside of carb.
