Incident Details

September 14, 2007 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

An older male pilot crashed into 80′ light poles along the US 60 Hwy near the Idaho launch site. The pilots wing impacted top of the light pole and the pilot, motor and trike fell to the ground. The pilot was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. It seems he was flying alone and never received any formal training. Many pilots in the area have reported seeing and talking with him at the site previously on a few occasions. Some local pilots stated that at first he would hang out talking with pilots and taking pictures. Then one day he showed up with some gear, seemed to be an older motor and a very used wing. They watched him struggle, failing launch after launch and finaly he would go home without ever leaving the ground. This scenario repeated a few times. Many of the local pilots offered help and pointed him in the direction of a very expireneced and reputable instructor, all efforts were politely refused. It was later reported that the guy purchased some used gear off the internet without getting advise from an instructor or knowledgable pilot and proceded to self teach.
