Incident Details
December 19, 2007 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
The Beach looked clear of debris. Kited the wing a few times. The lines fell on a small piece of wood. Often I would ignore this and still pull up the wing and launch but something told me to take a look at the line. It had been sitting on a festering piece of coal that burnt through the line sheath in 2 places. Someone probably built a fire the previous night and failed to out it properly. I wasn’t sure if the Kevlar line was weakened so I aborted the flight. There’s a chance I could have flown fine, but there’s also the chance of a major in flight problem. So the line is being replaced. Lesson learned – clear and check the inflation area for debris prior to wing set up. The wing could have been burnt, but luckily it was not.
