Location of the incident: ,
Type of Incident:
Was flying over an empty field on a brand new unit and new wing approaching the landing field next to it when unit ran out of gas. I felt I had enough elevation to clear trees that separated the two fields. As I approached them I decided to turn off to an opening between the trees and thus reduced my elevation even more. I noticed a small four foot fence with a barb wire top at the last moment, raised my legs up as high as I could and bounced off the top of the fence and landed standing up. The wing then flew over and fell before me. I then collected my thoughts for a moment, checked out the damage on the machine which was only superficial and realized how lucky I was. As I was flying a new motor and new wing and not familiar with either’s characteristics I should have landed right away rather than trying to make it back to the field.
