Incident Details

May 22, 2009 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

A PPG pilot landed in deep water in light wind, into the wind. The pilot had no time to unbuckle harness straps or otherwise prepare before landing in the water. When the paramotor impacted the water, the wing continued forward pulling the pilot forward face down into and under the water. The pilot’s Agama deployed automatically and instantly. The pilot was righted into a comfortable sitting position so quickly that he couldn’t even recall being submerged. A witness standing on shore only a few yards away dove in and swam out to help. The witness reported that it took the two of them several minutes to untangle and free the pilot from his paraglider lines and harness. The witness, also an experienced PPG pilot, stated that the Agama “saved this man’s life.” The witness also stated that he would “never fly over or near water again without wearing an Agama.”
