Incident Details
May 27, 2009 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
The pilot was flying a PPG trike low over some desert terrain and made a banking left turn over a large tree (Palo Verde – about 25ft tall). His rear left wheel got caught in the tree for a second which slowed his forward momentum, twisting the trike to the left. As the trike twisted, the wing shifted into an extreme left banking position. Once the trikes rear left wheel was freed from the tree, it tried to recover under the wing but due to the lack of altitude, the pilot, motor and trike hit the ground with significant energy. The pilot died instantly due to sever head/neck injuries.
