June 7, 2009 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
I stumbled on launch and did not completely kill the engine before my throttle hand hit the ground and the throttle went to full just as the engine was recovering from my premature release of the kill switch. Fortunately the rev was killed quickly and only a few lines were damaged. BUT it could have been far worse. I now periodically practice in my car “killing the ppg motor”. When I see a traffic light change to yellow I press the button on my park/emergency/manual brake and say aloud “hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold”. I say the last three “hold” very slow and deliberate. Point is: you must hold the kill switch until motor has COMPLETELY stopped. If necessary, hold throttle hand up while falling to the ground….imperative the the engine is killed and throttle protected until then. Also, I recommend developing the “instinct” to immediately kill the motor when something first seems “not right” during launch process. It is never a good feeling to wish you had killed the engine a second earlier.
