Incident Details

October 7, 2010 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

After making pre-flight checks I started my ppg. This was a new launch site, and I thought it was awesome being able to launch from the paved road. This Launch was perfect and I made my way to 250’agl. As always when leaving the earths surface, I do a quick visual of the beeners, harness and wing to make sure all is good. Things were awesome. After making some smooth tight turns over the harvested soybean fields I started to head South for my reconnoiter/cross country flight of the new area. Just then, still at 250′ agl I heard and felt an object strike my prop. I new this was gonna be a short flight. About 10 seconds elapsed and the engine went dead. I had plenty of time to line-up over one of the fields and make another engine-out landing, smooth as a butterfly with sore feet! And I was 25′ from the road I launched from..sweet!! The culprit was the primer ball. It had broken from inside the neck. This primer ball (attwood) which replaced the original was applied along with new fuel line in the spring of 2007. There’s not much in the way of inspection other than possibly changing these and the fuel lines out every couple years. Always fly safe! We Should always keep in mind the engine-out can happen anytime. FLY ACCORDINGLY and PLAY ANOTHER DAY !!
