Pilot was flying in cruise, between 100 and 300 feet, and somehow managed to deploy his reserve accidentally without realizing it. He stayed on the power until it became obvious that it wasn’t going to do any good. He landed fairly hard on ground and was lucky enough to land in a benign location because he had no ability to control his flight path.
