Incident Details

November 28, 2010 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

i had come home from work around five thirty pm. I thought i would get a twenty minute flight, from my back yard, before dark. i had done this already a few times before. i quickly checked winds aloft and other pertinant weather info, all was good. i warmed up my engine, performed preflight checks, kited my wing…i was ready. what happened next is a bit of a blur. i performed a perfect forward launch, throttled the engine and started running. i don’t remember if i actually got off the ground or not. i just remember the prop and cage began dragging on the ground and my wing started banking to the right. instead of killing the engine i panicked, kept on the throttle and put my right hand down towards the ground. everything came to a stop, i finally killed the engine and the wing drifted down. i unbuckled myself, stood up, took off my glove and realized the prop had cut the top of my hand smashed my middle finger almost completely off. two surgeries and two days in the hospital. they say i should have full use back in about a year.
