Incident Details
July 16, 2011 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
Recently purchased used wing. Assumed (wrongly) that the lines were trimmed. Upon takeoff, the max. climb angle was about 5 degrees. Lines were used to maximum but still too much slack. Ran out of runway and open space. I did not want to wrap the lines around my hands or wrists. Tall trees to the left and people to the right. Only option was a two 15′ saplings. first one cushioned the impact and unit fell gently between the two. Wing and lines were suspended in the tree but were taken down with the use of a ladder with no damage. Lesson learned: Never assume an unfamiliar wing is set, use a large open area for using any new or used equipment for the first time.
