Incident Details

August 9, 2011 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

During 100 hour inspection the spring clips on exhaust were found to be wearing down the loops that connect the springs to the exhaust pipes. Many of the loops are worn quite a bit and a few were completely through! This proves again how a 100 hour inspection can find this type of failure before it causes an in-flight emergency. The manual does not address the springs in the maintenance section (blocks yes @ 60 hours – but not the springs) If allowed to continue the springs would come off during flight (and you know where they would go…) See attached photo and please check your engine if you use this type of exhaust springs. Other types also use this type of exhaust. This could have resulted in a bad day if not found and corrected in time.
