Incident Details
January 11, 2012 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:
During cruise I experienced an engine failure after about an hour flight. Turned into the wind, tried to restart then landed in a plowed field. The cause of the engine failure was a faulty spark plug boot that was not adhering to the spark plug properly. During pre-flight I inspected the spark plug for proper color but failed to notice the pin inside the NGK boot was stuck in the open position. I have replaced the boot and also placed a zip-tie around the rubber water proofing provided at the bottom of the boot. I would recommend this to all pilots. As always, only fly over areas that provide a safe landing sight.
