Incident Details

March 23, 2020 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

At the 2020 “Florida Fun Fest” event (see Facebook event page), a landing pattern was established and in use at the north end of the field, where pilots landed to the east. It was well-briefed and understood by participants.

A solo pilot was flying low, northbound along a north/south road on the western edge of the landing are. It had been briefed to avoid this due to landing traffic.

A wheeled tandem pilot with a passenger was on final approach, eastbound, descending with the cart about 20 feet AGL, possibly for a low fly-by.

Neither pilot appeared to see the other when they collided. The solo pilot’s wing snagged the tandem cart, causing him to spin around and fall nearly vertically about 6 to 8 feet. He walked away and any possible injuries were unreported. The tandem was forced into a bank that caused him to strike a parked vehicle. Neither the 8-year old student or instructor were injured enough to require medical attention.
