Copied from news report. Pilot was flying alone. A 48-year-old Vero Beach man was killed Thursday afternoon in a paramotor accident on Hutchinson Island, said St. Lucie County sheriff’s officials. Arthur Levy died after his backpack-powered parachute crashed near Middle Cove Beach about 1 p.m. Thursday, officials said. Paramedics pronounced Levy dead at the scene. Vernon Payne lives at a rental property near the beach. He said he was watching the man fly with his motorized backpack. Payne said he was having trouble, landed, then took off again. “He went down the beach and he come back and he turned back and he lost sail,” Payne said. Payne said the man fell about 200-feet to the ground. He said he ran to try and help, but there nothing he could do. “By the time I got there I was out of breath, so I gave another guy my cell phone and he called 911,” Payne said. Payne said the man was not moving and he waiting for police and paramedics to arrive.
