Incident Details

May 10, 2019 Location of the incident: , Type of Incident:

Motor had been running fantastic for many flights. Took off perfect and was flying about 10 minutes near a golf course. Was flying at about 40 feet high and had just started climbing out when I Heard bump bump and the motor died. I wasn’t high enough to make an out. Only had 5 seconds as I started down right side of wing caught a little bit of tree. As it turned loose the left side of wing caught tree. That was the last thing I remember. I did hear the helicopter engine spool up when they must have hit me with a IV. I woke up in ICU at Grady Hospital. Turns out the pull cord came loose and got into prop. Wound up, broke the prop and killed the motor. No recovery and too low to make any out. Folks all I can tell you is I’m six weeks after and lucky to be alive. No matter how good your motor is, or how well it’s been running, stay high enough to catch your next out. Lady in neighborhood saw me go down, she was a nurse and must have run out there. I’m going to recover but it’s a long haul. After six weeks I’m moving some on crutches.
