Incident Details

April 10, 2024 7:30 PM Location of the incident: Romeo, Michigan Type of Incident: Engine Malfunction, Pilot Error

My pull start return was not functioning 100% perfectly. Before take off, I felt the pull start return slowly return & thought it was completely returned. After 5 minutes of flight, I went to higher RPM & the pull start cable was caught in the belt & resulted in both the belt & pull start cable breaking. I immediately felt the loss of thrust & abnormal sharp high pitch motor noise. This resulted in a complete loss of thrust. I killed the motor & landed without incident. This could have been prevented by better cleaning or replacement of the pull start mechanism.
