Equipment
My nickname is Tree Hugger. Twice, I have landed in a park near some <10' tall shrub/trees and lost footing. While sitting on the ground, my wing very carefully drifted to the side and draped the tree. A third time, I landed in a field bordered by trees, only to have my wing overfly me and drape some overhanging limbs as my landing distance was extended due to extra lift from thermal activity on approach. I was trained by Andy McAvin here in Houston, TX. I was out wade fishing in the bay one day when a PPG pilot flew past me and others and subsequently went above the clouds. At that time, I knew I had found my new sport. Two weeks later, I was near my home when I saw two PPC pilots at a NASA Ballunar festival giving a demonstration. It was six months later before I finally discovered I had an instructor that lived just 10 minutes away from me. I've been hooked ever since.
