Demonstration/Performance
In this section, you will learn several teaching techniques designed to help you provide adequate instruction to your students.
Remember: During all flight training phases, instructors are the student’s role models. Demonstrate good judgment in everything you do. Emphasize the importance of a proper preflight and consistent use of a safety checklist.
These techniques apply to any form of learning.
The demonstration-performance method is divided into four phases: explanation, demonstration, student performance with instructor supervision, and evaluation.
Explanation
The instructor gives a clear explanation of the objectives of a particular lesson.
Example: Instructor explains the techniques for reverse kiting.
Demonstration
The instructor gives a clear demonstration of the objectives of a particular lesson.
Example: Instructor demonstrates the techniques for reverse kiting.
Student Performance with Instructor Supervision
The student performs the task while the instructor supervises.
Example: Student begins reverse kiting while the instructor supervises.
Evaluation
The instructor gives feedback to the student.
Example: Instructor provides useful feedback to help the student to master the skill of reverse kiting.
